Warning: Incision Photo

Contrary to what you may think, the most disturbing parts of this photo are NOT the incisions themselves.  But rather, the stretch marks and flabs of fat that surround my belly.  I apologize in advance.

I have five incisions.  Numbers 2 and 5 are almost completely invisible.  Number one is very close to being totally healed.  Number four is a bit swollen and tender and, of course, number 3 (the port) is the slowest to heal.  Dontcha just love the yummy yellow bruises around the port incision?  That small yellow/green bruise between numbers 2 and 4 is from the first blood thinner injection.  The one they gave me after surgery (its a bit lower, thus cut from the photo) is just gnarly-looking.  Its black and purple and green and yellow all at once.  NOT pretty.

Oh, and yes, for those of you that were wondering.  I really am that white.  My husband jokes that I'm so white I'm almost transparent.  Hahaha...  *glare*

  1. Those look really good for less than a month out. I bet they will fade almost completely.

  2. They do look great! Better than mine did at that time. People always joked around that I looked so pale I looked dead. People always thought I looked sick and docs were always testing me for low iron. Now everyone keeps commenting on how good my color is. It is amazing how much difference a little color can make.

  3. I agree, your upper scar is much less defined than mine, which are almost six weeks old!

P.S. I am also that ghostly white. That's what happens when your tummy hasn't seen the sun since you were four. I have big plans to change that, poolside in a bikini some day! With moderate SPF, of course... =)

  4. Greetings from a fellow tranluscent girl! I have two shades... ghastly white and lobster red. There's no in between for me!

Your scars actually look great to me for so soon after. Are you doing anything special to help them fade (mederma, cocoa butter or anything like that)?

  5. Hi Kiki! No, I'm not doing anything to them. In fact, if I'm honest, I have a hard time keeping my hands off them. I want to pick at the scabs which is nasty, I know.

  6. I think I could give you a run for your money in the pale dept. :) Your incisions look great; the port one is always the one that takes the longest.

I was scared to death to touch mine...I was afraid the incision would burst open and all of my internal organs would fall out. Sometimes they get a bit itchy and I scratch right around them. I do put some cocoa butter lotion on them. That seems to help!

  7. Those are exactly where my incisions are, as well. I'm 16 months from surgery, and my scars have healed so nicely that you can barely see them at all! Even the big incision is hard to see. I have some pics here, but be aware: it shows a rather disturbing looking port site. (I think my port was not attached correctly. You couldn't tell so much when I had a flabby tummy but 85 pounds later you can see the port bulging quite significantly!)

ALSO -- I have a clothing giveaway going on at my blog, so check out the newest posting and see if there's anything you would like!!

  8. Hey there! I'm a new follower and was banded just after you on June 14th! Thankful to say my scars are also tiny and healing nicely, although a couple of the steri strips are hanging on for dear life so I haven't seen what's under those just yet.

Looking forward to sharing the journey. :)
