Two Weeks Out

Today marks two weeks post-op.

It feels like a lifetime ago, and yet I still can't believe that its been two whole weeks.

I'm healing splendidly.  My incisions are looking amazing and I'm no longer struggling with exhaustion.

I'm starting to get antsy, though.  I want to get moving!  I want to ride my bike again and even hit the gym!  When did you get your activity clearance from your doctor?  When were you able to do more than just walk?  I know two weeks is early, but I can't imagine waiting another two weeks (at least!).

If you haven't already figured it out, patience is not my forte.

  1. I started riding my bike about one week post-op. Nothing too strenuous, but short, flat rides. I've always felt that if you feel up to it, it is probably okay.

  2. I had the same problem, I was so unbelievably motivated just a few days out and I felt like I was melting away without being able to rebuild healthy, lean muscle! I didn't get clearance, so to speak. I walked a lot from the start but I waited exactly four weeks before really starting a dedicated workout regimen, and even then I started very slowly. Yoga and gentle stretching, then spinning, then strength training. Your doctor might give you a standard time frame but you know how your body feels better than anyone. The one thing I don't do yet is heavy abdominal work. No crunches and no bending too far at the waist. I'd wait at least four weeks but when you do decide to start, just go slow and avoid that sensitive area. Remember the port is stitched to the muscle and it's still healing, you don't want to jeopardize that!

  3. yes, Pie. The port is what I'm most concerned about. I don't want to do anything to tear the stitches or inflame the area. *sigh*

  4. Happy 2-week-iversary!!! I'm experiencing a bit of "cabin fever" too. If it weren't for the sprained ankle, I'd probably be out walking the neighborhood hills by now. But, alas, I cannot. I guess maybe the sprain is a blessing in disguise?--making sure I don't overdo it too soon. I like Pie's advice about starting slowly. My only "official" restriction right now is not to lift anything over 15 lbs.

Your incisions look way better than mine! Keep up the good work.
