I think I did something to my port and I need feedback from my fellow bandsters.

Here's the low-down...

A few days ago my port area was feeling a little... sore.  And by little I do mean a little.  I only felt it if I moved "just right" and it wasn't painful, just a little sore.  I did nothing in my recollection that could have injured or irritated my port, so I didn't think anything of it.

But then yesterday I was at my mom's house and we were on her bed flipping through catalogs (one of our favorite activities).  I was laying on my stomach and I pushed myself up to sit up and felt a very distinct pulling/burning sensation at my port site.  It was painful enough to make me gasp.

And ever since then I've been feeling a constant pain at that site.  It ranges from a dull soreness to a painful (but not excruciating) burning/pulling feeling.  Anytime I have to flex my abdominal muscles, the pain intensifies.  Its nothing I can't handle and its certainly nothing that I feel is an emergency call-the-doctor-this-instant situation, but I was just wondering...

Has this ever happened to anyone else?  Did I just go away after a few days of healing?  Is there a chance I tore a stitch or two from my port?  Do I need to call the doctor and get checked out right away or just wait a few days?

  1. Why not call the doctor and let him/her tell you if you need to come in?

  2. I agree with Lynda.

I've got issues with my port site bugging me, but that's because mine has become detached and so it bulges out and therefore "gets in the way" more often.

  3. Every once in a while my port gets very, very sore. It's usually when I sit and watch TV for too long. I definitely get that burning/stinging sensation. It goes away after a day or two. I have no explanation for it other than that, I think it's probably normal but it never hurts to call the doctor just to calm your mind. Maybe give it 24 more hours and if it still hurts give them a call?

  4. Definitely think you should call doc if it doesn't go away in a day or two. Hope it does.

  5. I have only been banded for a month but mine gets sore like that too. I go today for a fill and I plan to ask the doctor about it. I'll let ya know what he says.

  6. So I called the doc and talked to his nurse. She said I probably just irritated that area and to take it easy for a few days. Of course, if it gets worse or I see redness, etc I need to call them. Otherwise, I'm good to go.

  7. UGH! I hope you find out what's causing this pain very soon! I can't say I've ever had something like that happen to me.

On another note, I really love your blog and would like to give you this award :
